If you are like me, you love fall and decorating your home but when it comes to holiday decor, you find it wasteful, expensive, and sometimes tacky. I can appreciate the plastic pumpkins, faux fall leaves, faux sunflowers, etc. in other people’s homes but the idea of spending money and having to store all of these items when they are not being used makes it hard for me to justify. Here are the ways that I like to bring the fall vibes into my home.
Using real pumpkins, gourds or squashes is the only traditional fall decor I like to incorporate into my home during the holidays There are so many variations in the colours you can buy. The biggest benefit of buying real is that you can also cook, bake, and eat them when you’re done with them. They look adorable and there is no waste!
Growing up in Alberta, I remember driving along farmers filled with wheat and other dried crops in September and October. Including dried grasses in your home is a nod to fall that is both minimal and beautiful. If you like a bit more colour, go for floral arrangements with rusts, reds, purples, orange, and mustards. These subtle ways will make your home feel more like autumn without feeling too themey.
One of the simplest things you can do is bring in fall colours; brown, sage or forest green, cream, rust, mustard, and burnt orange. If you add any type of decor in this colour pallet to your home during this season, it will feel more like autumn.
When you think of a fall print, what do you think? PLAID. While plaid can look tacky, there are tasteful ways to add it. Choose a plaid that has only 2 to 3 colours that tie into your other decor, and use it sparingly. These tips will ensure it brings a stylish bit of fall into your home.
